I lived in Europe for half of my life and the other half I spent living across Canada. I have seen and experienced a mighty lot over the years and indeed, our (Canada’s) Health Care System is crumbling large. But, our own society is to blame for it to go that far, since we allowed it from the beginning, due to lack of the set up for it in the first place. Then we also gave many capable people a fine education in Canada, only to see them wandering out to other places out of country for bigger money. Now we have politicians ceasing our possibility to receive the care we so well require, yet they continue to poison us with other things that harm us all and set up stupid laws, instead of getting the real harmfull things eliminated. Believe it or not, people in Canada are so more stressed, than people in Europe. Europe has a great health system, that entitles people to receive paid health vacations and childcare. They know, that if your body is healthy, you can perform better and more. This is one thing, that Canada still has to realize, that we can not buy our health, but create it instead. I had my fair share sitting in an emergency room for about 3 hours with a non properly breathing child in Victoria, since 2:00 AM in the morning, while not even a nurse bothered to check on him. After we went through triage, I do remember it so well, since I eventually lost my passions and named the emergency ward a “morge†instead, that time out loud. Believe me, they suddenly paid attention. I find it ridiculous, that people have to be on such a long waiting list for certain things, that we are lacking on health professionals and the meds that cost more than a house in some parts of Canada. It would be easier to shop on the black market for some things and get a growers permit for drugs that they call illegal, than getting a proper health care setting. Also, I learned that some of the different government agencies provide paid stress vacation to their employees. A social worker gets every second week paid by the department - stress leave for a week, while the person who applies for help there, gets a kick in the head! In my Opinion: #1- The politicians should have to use our regular offered health care facilities, and have the right to be placed also on the waiting list like the rest of us. #2- Any Canadian that was educated in the health care system, would have to albeit to a least a 10 year contract, having to give their acquired practice in a Canadian Institution of Health. #3- Health Care and it's insurance should be governed equally across Canada and the age limitation for health and dental care for children should be brought back up to 18 years of Age. #4 -Seniors should not have to pay for any health care after age 75. #5 - Reduce stress on people, let the poor guy smoke if he/she likes. They are less (likely) to become ill. Then, when they are forced to stay out in the cold, ensuring to get a kidney infection or else. Besides, they seem to live longer, than the ones that do not smoke. Trackbacks

I agree with you on your article except for the last point about smoking. Although smoking is harmful, I think rooms should be allocated in hospitals for smoking with proper ventalation due to the stressful atmosphere. The bacteria strains lurking in hospitals are certainly more dangerous than a little smoke.
First off I have to start this comment witha brief history.
Jan 4 2002 I gave birth to my firstchild 5 weeks early his name is Kaleb. They hadto induce me early because he already shut down one of my kidnys andthe secondone was in distre3ss. so Itwas either let him out a few weeks early or place me on Dyalisis. I insisted on a few tests to make sure he would be OK a Ultrasound and constant monitoring.. both wre ccomplied to. he was well over 7 lbs at 35 weeks so itshould be safe. it was! Kaleb was born 7 lbs 1 oz fully adorable and healthy. OK Great as he developed he his his milestones late. I took him to our doctorwho said " Ahh its nothing" then at 2 he had a fever 106.1 F but we were on vacation to Quebec ( we are from Ontario ) but we had OHIP ( Health Cards) so we were ok.. we getto the ER and asidefrom the language barrierthey did see him ASAP. they hadhim on IV Right away when he seized. he seized a LOT. The Doctor told us he wanted to do a Lumbar Puncture butthey didnthave the equipment there, so we were given high dosages of Tylenol and Gravol..and sent home. Yeah the fever broke and all should have been well. Its Common enough for a young child to seize when their body is heated like that. but we never knew whatthe cause went.when we did get home we wentto ourDoctor who didnt see the point on a LP because Kaleb's Temp was normal. he diagnoised him with a Virus. Fast forward 1 year, Kaleb keeps havig these strange fits he looks drunk for minutes at a time then passes out cold. but when we get to the ER he is fine (Took him in at least 6 times) until a hot July day Kaleb slept from 8 pm till 11 am.. at11 I wake him " I am justtired" he ssaid.. but this didnt seem right so I take him to the storeto buy him a Slurpee.. when we get home he said " Mom I need a nap" I said " No Kaleb" when THUMP he fell down.. went unconscience. I called 911... this time they revive him andwe get to the Hospital.. FINALLY they take his fits seriously. about 6 monts ittakes us to see a peadatrician.. ( FAR TOO LONG ) she does tests andfigures its a Innerearissue I say " no This started back when he hadthatFever I know it. run a EEG" she does so, because she felt a Mother has instincts. she was right. Kaleb has Epilepsy... FINALLY On track... so we start him witha Drug that destroys his Platlets .. he almost dies the Peadtrician now sends kaleb to Toronto to a Nuero specializing in Epilepsy. Sadlyto treat the platelet disorder we hadto stop all treatments for epilepsy. his Short term memory was flooded outbecausehe started to seize almost daily. his Platelets were still not stable enoughto go to school so he missed his first month of Kindergarden. after he stablized we finally found a Medfor the Epilepsy that worked and mostly left his Platlets alone. after 7 EEG's and 6 showing seizures he hada FIRNM Epilepsy DX. but the Neuro wanted a MRI justto make sure it ws clear. OK sure, it took excatly 1 year and 9 months to get into the MRI Lab at Sick Kids in Toronto. Finally on his 6th B-day he was sedated and they took pictures of his brain. On Feb 4th the Neuro called me at SupperTime. " we found a mass on the anterior Inferior section it is Undefined" I didnt cry, I was in shock as well as angry as all hell.. why did he have to wait almost 2 years for a stupid MRI? why did it take 2 years to diagnoise his Epilepsy? Although in the states we would have to pay out ourasses we would have known aboutthe massin our child's Brain... we would have known aboutthe epilepsy .. in weeks or months not in YEARS! now here is the kicker theMeds he takes no longer work, but we cant increasethe dosage- too dangerous because of his platelets. and we are on a waiting listfor the second MRI scan thatwill hopefully tell us if this mass is something to worry about or not. My child is put on HOLD meanwhile we dont know if he has Brain cancer or if its just something on the MRI itself. |
